Is this weight or girth, does she feel solid or more spongy like
a less than full baloon?. I had a similiar gain of size with my
nearly 5 y/o Sue and blood tests were inconclusive and
physical examination suggested ascites (fluid build-up). Because
the cause could not be determined it was eventually decide to
perform exploratory surgery and her liver was found to be
almost entirely consisting of a large hemangiosarcoma (blood
filled tumour) with hardly any functioning liver remaining. It
was not operable and my girl was euthanised there and then.
She was eating, drinking and playing normally up to end, it was
so unexpected.
Please take your girl to the vet for a good checkup with full
blood test, it may be nothing more than an enlarged spleen
due to some minor infection but does need medical diagnosis.
Tony (not a vet), Sugar and Suki.
In memory of Sally and Sue.
