Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: Swollen Feet in a Ferret?
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Hello,

No, we never did find out what caused all his paws to swell. We took
blood and the results came back normal. He got a lot worse the day I
posted this message, he could barely walk and all four paws were
swollen and trembling. He would still eat and drink though if I
picked him up and put him right next to the bowls. Anyway, he is
still on Prednisolone and Clavamox. He also had an injection of Lasix
to get the fluid out of him, and I was instructed to give him water
every hour to flush any toxins out of his body. He slept a lot the
first few days. I am going to start tapering him off the Pred
starting tonight. The swelling and trembling has gone down
completely. He is back to normal now thank god. I really wish I knew
what caused the problem because it was so terrifying and I don't want
it to happen ever again. I have rewashed everything he comes into
contact with, with Tide allergy laundry detergent. The only other
thing it could have been was a bug bite but I never found any marks on
him. I still have no idea. The only thing that had been remotely new
was washing their bedding in a cheap laundry detergent 5 days prior to
this incident. Also his paws were purple and he was biting them.

Thanks for your concern, I will update if anything further happens!
