Subject: [ferrethealth] Purevax reax

Hi,
Just want to let ferret owners and vets on the list that my Ollie had
a bad reaction to his Purevax distemper vaccine. He's four years old
and has never had a bad reaction previously. Thank goodness I was
barely out of the parking lot when he began vomiting, because he went
down very fast. In less than five minutes we were back in the hospital
and Ollie was turning blue as the vet began working on him. She
brought him back, and he's fine now, but it was a horrible and painful
experience for my poor little boy.
It's ironic because my vet had said she would rather not vaccinate
Ollie at all than use another brand. We waited two months beyond
Ollie's vaccination due date until she could obtain the Purevax.
Just want owners and vets to be aware and prepared - I know Purevax
reactions are pretty rare, but no vaccine is risk-free.
