I had a ferret a few years ago that nearly died after recieving the Purevax.
She had been pretreated with benedryl prior to the shot. She had a slight
reaction the year before to the old vaccine, can't remember the name of it. She
went into anaphylactic shock seconds after the shot.
It was bad and she nearly died. She spent the entire day at the vets. It
took several days before she was back to normal. It was horrible. I had another
ferret go through the same thing with the Purevax. We stopped vaccinating
all together after those incidents. They are both gone now.
I have just one ferret living now. If I get anymore in the future I am
going to get them vaccinated just once, the first series and that is it. I
believe the problem is that we vaccinate them yearly for distemper when other
animals wait several years in between. I am sure that is why there are so many
reactions in ferrets. I am glad your little one came out of it. I know with both
of my ferrets the vet warned me it was touch and go for awhile. I really
thought I would lose them both.
