Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: Swollen Feet in a Ferret?
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

I wanted to share my experience with a ferret with swollen feet and
my vet put him on lasix also. Only lasix. I was told later that if
she had put him on Lasix AND Procardia, he probably would have
lived. I will never know, because he died very suddenly in the
middle of the night of a heart attack. It was a very very LOUD,
screaming noise that only a ferret who is dying could make. He died
of a heart attack in my arms; the vet was on the phone and encouraged
me to just hold him and try to comfort him until it was over, which I
did.

It just seemed forever.....it wsa incredibly loud and upsetting -
enough that my other two ferrets died within the next 48 hours of
pure frustration,, shock and not understanding what happened to their
buddy.

I was told later that IF the vet had put him on Lasix AND Procardia
that he would have made it. I won't know, but if I had it to do all
over again, I think I'd at least try it. The heart attack was
definitely something I NEVER want to go thru with a ferret again.

Best of luck to you. I would encourage you to get your ferret to a
veterinary cardiologist. JMHO YMMV

Sincerely,
Jacquie Rodgers
