Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: Ferret Death after Distemper Shot
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Bupronex is just pain med. It sounds like the emergency vet either did NOT think that this
was an allergic reaction (and maybe it wasn't since that presentation was strange) or if the
vet did think so then the vet was afraid of using the meds needed to survive, possibly due
to not knowing ferrets so all that was done was to make the ferret comfortable.

We then waited 45 minutes and no reaction. I came home with her and while she was
sleepy there was no sign of a problem. She drank water, ate and pooped. I went out for
several hours and when I came back (11 PM or so) I found her lying on the floor not
moving. Her belly was distended and hard. I called the emergency vet who did have
someone on who had treated ferrets and off we went.

what that is). This was at 1:30 AM. She was unable to use her back legs.

now and he will perform a necropsy on Monday. I am in a state of shock as is her vet. He
had no reactions from any of the other ferrets he vaccinated in the last week with the
same lot number.

She also got treated for earmites.

over the past 9 years and the reactions seem to become more frequent. I usually wait 18
months between vaccinations.
