Penelope (61/2 years young) had her distemper vaccination yesterday. She was
pretreated 20 minutes prior to injection with Dexamethasone SP 4 mg/ML via
injection. We then waited 45 minutes and no reaction. I came home with her and
while she was sleepy there was no sign of a problem. She drank water, ate and
pooped. I went out for several hours and when I came back (11 PM or so) I found
her lying on the floor not moving. Her belly was distended and hard. I called
the emergency vet who did have someone on who had treated ferrets and off we
went.
**This doesn't necessarily sound like a vaccine reaction to me, although it's
possible. It sounds much more like a ruptured spleen or tumor, and if so,
would be a horrible coincidence. Please do post the necrospy results.
And I'm so sorry that you lost her.**
