Subject: [ferrethealth] Ring-around-the-tail
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

My Phoebe, a female who's about 7 years old, has a bald spot that goes
all the way around the base of her tail. Her previous owner said that
she shed one season and all of her coat came in except that spot, now
it's been about 2 years and she hadn't lost any more hair; our vet
said that as long as she's not losing more or showing any other signs
of adrenal disease (which she is certainly not) then it should be ok.

Yesterday I noticed a little more hair was gone from that area, and
the skin underneath it looks like it might be irritated. Like I said,
it's been 2 years since she first lost that little bit of fur and
she's not showing any other signs of adrenal, so I'm thinking she
might have some kind of skin condition. The rest of her coat is fluffy
and thick, except the base of her tail. Does this sound like anything
common?
