Subject: [ferrethealth] Clarification - HELP - Ring Worm
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Microsporum canis sounds like a dog related fungus. Is it? Do cats carry it?

and does Trichophyton show under black light?

Do both cause the typical round/roundish blister pattern reaction on skin?

Is treatment of the condition the same with both?
Are both controlled and or killed with the same anti-fungal medications?

Thanks for your help

Vicki

Black light will only show one species of ringworm, microsporum canis
which is the one most contagious to people. There are sometimes false
negatives though. The more commom type in cats and exotics is
Trichophyton species and there are several so these would require
culture. Hope that helps.
