HI Mike
I don't know what's written on the bag, but ferrets are very picky eaters. Whatever they are eating at the moment is what they accept as food. If someone switches them immediately they will usually take the stance of "I'd rather starve than switch".. SO
Take the old food and put 3/4 of a cup of that food in a bowl or bag then add 1/4 of a cup of the new stuff.. mix well (if you put it in a bag feel free to roll the top down and shake well)... pour this in a bowl and place where the little fuzzy is accustomed to eating. Leave the bowl and fuzzy alone... soon the fuzzy will eat the food he/she recognizes as food.. and eventually a morsel of the new stuff will find it's way in his/her mouth as well.
After a week or two.. try a new mixture.. put 1/2 of the old and 1/2 of the new food in a bowl or bag and mix or shake well then put this mix in fuzzies bowl and leave.
After a week or two try a new mixture... put 3/4 of the new food and 1/4 of the old food...
What makes a difference in how soon you change the mix ratios is whether the ferret is eating all of the food or ignoring the new food (or worse tossing the new food away).
This is also one of the reasons you should feed a mix of different ferret foods. That way if one formula changes or if you run out of a food and can't get it right away they will still eat what is offered.
And finally you might also want to get them on some sort of soup everyday as a treat.. give them a bowl in the morning or if that is not convenient.. give it to them in the evening.. just get them to where they'll call in the FLA to get their soup if you don't give it to them. The reason for this is that if and when one gets sick he/she will already be accustomed to eating the soup and anything you have to add to keep them healthy will be a minor consideration.
I hope this has helped.
