To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Actually it is the dog one but is the most contagious across species,
dog, cats, ferrets, Rabbits etc. as well as the one humans most
frequently get. Any one can be a carrier without signs.
Trichophyton does not show under a black light it needs to be
cultured. Both can cause similar signs, sometimes it looks dry and
scaley with reddness. Treatment is the same as is environmental
decontamination.
They can be cured provided you eliminate the carriers and the
enviromental vectors.
We have it in the cat shelter and those that break are generally
immunocompromised. Those with good immune systems tend to remain as
carriers.
Antifungal medications, Lyme Dyps are great but smelly. THis gets
the whole body so it becomes more effective. Oral antifungals are
also good but can be toxic and need to be given fairly long term.
Hope this helps.
