Subject: [ferrethealth] Incontinence and diapers for ferrets
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
Hello,
I was wondering if anybody out there may have advice on how to help
out our incontinent ferret friends. I have an 8y MN ferret who is
presumed to have spinal lymphoma, though concrete diagnosis is still
up in the air. He is having issues with fecal and urinary
incontinence occasionally, and when we're at work we are having to
diaper him to prevent accidents in his bed.
We are currently using a technique with a maxi-pad with a hole cut out
for the tail, and the diaper held in place on the sides with tape (not
taped directly to his skin of course!). These stay on only a
percentage of the time, and unfortunately they are a bit bulky and get
in his way if he wants to try and cruise around. Does anybody have
any advice on how to keep an incontinent ferret clean and diaper-rash
free? We hope this is only temporary as we have just started him on
steroids, but who knows. I guess many decisions will need to be made
in the future, but we're hoping the steroids will kick in. Thanks for
your help!
Christa
