Subject: [ferrethealth] Feral infectants
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Thank you Chris;

I've always been told there is no such thing as a feral ferret, except finally some recognition of the feral ferrets in New Zealand. Maybe statements should be revised to say no feral ferrets in the US and that may not be true either, even here in HOT, HUMID HOUSTON...

I doubt if ferrets anywhere have natural immunities to worms, do you think so?

But to certain bacteria ferrets may well have immunities. Their quick digestive tract and the amount of time different bacteria take to "set up housekeeping" are not conducive to these bacteria becoming infectants.

I don't know about the viruses - I suppose they could, the ferret, have an immunity to some - years of building up immunities, maybe with light exposures.

Anyway, thank you again.

Vicki

>Yes and that is actually what a feral ferret/polecat would eat in the UK, they eat carrion as part of their natural diet. They have a
natural immunity to to most of the nasties found on my side of the pond.
We have had feral ferrets for well over 500 years and they are pretty well adapted to the environment. Chris.
