Subject: [ferrethealth] Bony-ness? Loss of muscle mass?
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Okay I have posted about my ferret Franklin a lot over the last few
months, about how he lost a lot of weight and was fatigued and I have
been to a few great ferret vets without a definitive diagnosis. He
has gained some weight especially in his belly since he has been on
quite an arsenal of medications (Batril, Prednisolone, Pepcid AC,
Prescription Vitamins, Epogen shots). We are trying to taper him off
the meds now slowly, one by one.

Anyway, one symptom still persists and it nags at me so much I am
tempted to still go through with exploratory surgery. When I feel his
body, especially between his shoulder blades, he is just so damn bony.
I can feel all the bones in his spine and in his legs and stuff. He
is not skinny persay but the bones feel prominent to the touch. None
of my other ferrets feel like this and they are all around the same
age. I don't even know what this symptom would be called or what it
would be due to. He seems limp and like he has no fight in him when I
scruff him, even though occasionally he will play like the rest of them.

He saw the vet last Friday and the vet thought he was doing good, but
I don't know. I don't think my mind will rest until he has
exploratory surgery. I feel like no one knows him like I do and its
not if something is wrong, but what it is. Know what I mean?

So I guess I am writing to ask if anyone knows what causes the
bony-ness and what would be the more technical term for what I am
describing.
