Subject: [ferrethealth] Need Help with my ferret!!!!!
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

This is a little long, but needs to be to explain the situation. My 5
to 6 year old male ferret, Roscoe started out with a cold a couple of
weeks ago. He was running a temp around 105, running nose, sneezing
fits, watery eyes and some congestion. Typical flu yuck. I took him to
the vet and my vet started him out on Children's Benedryl and Clavomox
to help prevent secondary infection. He did real well and was feeling
a lot better. I made the mistake of taking him off the medicine too
soon, my vet told to get him started back up and give him the meds a
full 10 days. After the 10 days was up I took him off his meds. This
was Monday (4-16-07) Then Tuesday he started sneezing a lot again, and
you could tell he did not feel good. Then by Wed, he felt feverish
again, looked yuck, not much appetite, and just wanted to sleep. So I
took him back to the vet, I had also noticed his pads on his feet were
pale, nearly white.
My vet did a CBC, could not find any visible tumors, did a fecal
float- it was negative.
Now here is what shocked us both, is his blood test.
I am typing a copy of it below.

WBC= L 0.2
LYMF=L 0.1
GRAN= L 0.0
MID= L 0.1
LYMF= 59.7
GRAN= 19.9
MID= 20.4

HCT= L 18.8
MCV= L 47.2
RBC=L 3.97
HGB= L 7.0
MCH= L 17.6
MCHC= 37.4
RDW% 15.0

PLT= L 16FD

GLUCOSE 194

My vet started him out on .5 mg of Prednisolone twice a day, and the
same of the pet tenic. I am feeding him home made duck soup mixed with
carnivore care every 4 hours.
He was not dehydrated and is ADV negative.
Does anyone have any thoughts to this on what can be done to help him,
and what caused this?
