Subject: [ferrethealth] Need Help with my ferret!!!!!
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
I am not a vet.
My first impression is that all the values are low, pancytopenia- meaning
the bone marrow is not making white blood cells, red cells or platelets.
What is causing the problem? An infection can cause bone marrow
suppression, cancers, medications, etc. The problem is at this stage
you will have to consider a blood transfusion. A reticulocyte count can
tell you for sure if the bone marrow is working ( if low it means it isn't,
if high it means there is blood loss going on and the bone marrow just
can't keep up to replace it) And maybe bone marrow testing?
Also, repeating the CBC just in case it is lab error ( like diluted
specimen,etc)>
The other concern is the low low white blood cell count and neutropenia
this means he has no defenses against infections.
he needs close follow up with the vet as well.
I am sorry he is not feelnig well,
