Subject: [ferrethealth] Insulinoma, what to feed?
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

I've just had my first ferret in 10 years diagnosed with insulinoma.
Not common here in Denmark. He's a 6 years old male. My vet
recommended surgery, so he'll be having that after the ekg confirms
nothings wrong with his heart.

He has had an healthy appetite up to the diagnosis, (in fact he only
lost 100 gram during seasonal weightloss). I've previosly fed him
duck-soup once a week, but had to stop because the stopped eating his
kibble. After his diagnosis I started giving him the soup again, and
of course he now won't eat his kibble. Can a ferret live only on
ducksoup??

My ducksoup is pretty simple:
Boiled chicken (skin, meat, no bone, and put though the blender with
water from the boiled chicken)
Kibble that has been through a blender
and a bit of ferretone.

Is that recipe okay for a ferret with insulinoma?

Normally I would feed my ferrets kibble (James Wellbeloved, one of my
ferrets has chicken allergy), thawed 5 weeks old mice 1-2 times a
week. For treats they get different brand of ferret food (fernando) Is
that okay to feed him that again after the operation, or should I
continue with the duck-soup (but then I can only get him to eat the
treats, duck-soup and mice)
