Subject: [ferrethealth] Ferret on many meds
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

I have a ferret that is a regular at my house for ferret-sitting.
Over the years he has started on meds. He is at my home now for 9
days.

Right now another drug has been added: Propecia -- He is starting
the 1.0ml per day dose for a month. It is chicken flavor.

Other drugs he is on:

Carafate, 0.5ml (for ulcer, black tarry stools) before meals.

Amoxy, 0.5ml 2x/day for ulcer now. But prior to this he had been on
Amoxy for constantly getting 'puss by penis'. Some urinary-type
infection that comes back any time the Amoxi is stopped.

Pediapred, 0.5ml 2x/day after chicken or turkey baby food. This is
for insulinoma.

And he also gets melatonin implants.

We are doing Sub-Q fluids, 20cc 2x/day to keep him hydrated and
kidneys flushed.

What I am wondering with the addition of the Propecia, this guy is
getting a pretty heavy dose of meds all at once.

Today we did the Propecia at Noon. 0.5ml before baby food and 0.5ml
after baby food. He seemed to appreciate this more.

The other drugs and sub-q fluids are given at approx. 6AM & 6PM.

Is there a drug other than the Amoxi-Drops that will clear up the
urinary infection (Clavamox or Sulfa-trim?) so he doesn't have to be
on constant Amoxi?

When the owner is home she is usually only able to do meds in AM &
PM. Maybe she will need to come home for lunch and do the Propecia
until it is down to the smaller dose of 0.1ml.

Thank you for any suggestions.
