You didn't mention the ferrets age, but adrenal gland disease comes to
mind. You can treat the dry skin, but keep in mind there may be an
underlying cause. I had one ferret with only a flaky orange skin
condition at time of adrenal disease diagnosis - his was along his
spine starting from tail base to mid back without any real hair loss,
he also had a very dry , rough coat compared to my other ferrets, and
was only 2 1/2 years old ( also the youngest I have ever had with
adrenal). A vet visit may make sense too, just to make sure not ring
worm or something else as well.
