Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: Insulinoma, what to feed?
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

The last two years my Taz has been insulinomic .. He had adrenal
removal and have been on a high protein puree mixture... I starte him
on my own mixture after he had his adrenal removal and a couple of
tiny tumors...

>From what I have researched , you have to keep their insulin up..

[Moderator's Note: the opposite; their insulin is too high so the sugar
to be prevented from being dropped too much by the insulin]

so
I feed him only a puree mixture about every 4 hours... and that is
all he eats.. he has access to kibble but prefer the puree mixture..
I am not a vet .. but I would say your duck soup is very healthy for
him...

Hopefully your ferret will not have to go on predisone or other meds,
not all ferrets have too, mine held his own with the puree mixture
without having to be on any meds...

He has been on predisone and is gaining weight from the dosage he
gets , vet has tried to cut back on his dosage but he get low
energy , and lethargic...so we keep him where he is now.. instead of
cutting back... on meds...

My taz is adrenal and insolomic and he is terminal... His old vet
said he would not make it until christmas and he is still going ,
strong eats great , plays with other cagemates and waddles after the
cat..
He is up to 4 lbs.. hopefully vet and i will find a diet to help him
to loose some weight.. cause weight issues can cause it's own
problems....

If you are interested in my puree diet , please feel free to contact
me personally and I will give to you... It kept my Taz healthy and
med free for over a year....

Hope this helps...
