Subject: [ferrethealth] Sodium in Meds
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

How much sodium can ferrets tolerate? We have just started a new
prescription of Finesteride (Propecia) and it has been compounded and
mixed with "double chicken flavor".

It tastes really salty. Kind of like the flavor packet from Rice-A-
Roni.

I called the pharmacy and they said they used chicken boullion for
flavoring. They figured out the sodium content to be 21mg/1mL. Is this
okay for a ferret?

Right now he is on the 1mL per day for 30 days.

I'm thinking we should change to the bubble gum flavor. He doesn't seem
to 'appreciate' the chicken flavor anyway.

Thanks,
