Subject: [ferrethealth] Swollen Feet, Now Walking Funny?
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

I wrote about my ferret Alvin (5 y.o. male) having swollen feet for a
few days about a month ago. He also had much difficulty getting
around at the time and his legs would tremble a lot. (Please see
http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/ferrethealth/message/1800) He was
treated with a shot of Lasix, Clavamox and Prednisolone and had
recuperated just fine, or so I thought. We attributed the incident to
some type of allergic reaction or insect bite, as his paws were
swollen and he was biting at them.

Now for the last two days there has been ferret poop right outside the
door to the cage and I have been wondering who has been doing this,
and tonite I saw Alvin go up to the cage, try to climb thru the door
and fall on his side, then he decided to go outside the cage (they are
pretty much 24-hour free roam as I work from home). Also he has been
a bit unsteady on his feet, easily falling over if I give him a slight
push. He still is walking around as usual though.

What do you think is causing this? Obviously the two problems are
related. My vet is on vacation this week or I would be calling
tommorrow asap.

The only other things worth mentioning is that he has a little tumor
growing by his whiskers that the vet said we would remove the next
time he is sedated for something, he didn't seem too concerned, and
the thing that bothers me is that his eyes seem to bulge a bit more
than they used to (I am afraid this is an underlying brain tumor or
something). The eye thing might just be a figment of my imagination
cause the vet couldn't see it.

Any tips on the leg swelling thing? The vet did a urine cytology last
time and everything came out normal. I am very surprised his back
legs seem funny again.
