Subject: [ferrethealth] mast cell tumors
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

I have a year old ferret that was diagnosed with a mast cell tumor on his left shoulder. We took him to see a ferret knowledgeable vet who diagnosed this. It appeared as a red spot with a little dried blood which we thought might have come from rough play. After a day or two it got better and went away. About a month later we noticed another one in the same spot so this is why we took him to see the vet. The red spot starts out looking like a little red bruise with a small dot of dried blood. It gets smaller after a few days and then they seem to go away. The vet said these mast cell tumors are usually not cancerous and they will do just as we have seen them do, dry up and fall off. Has anyone had this experience with any of their ferrets. This is a male ferret that is beautiful and loves to be cuddled and played with. We want to give him the best. Do we just watch these or is there something we should be doing. Please advise.
