Hi Lynne,

Yes, Crypto is very scary.

Can I ask you about the two of your that you lost to crypto. How was it diagnosed and what part of the body was the crypto in.

Our little Lucky was not quite a year when he was diagnosed with crypto after necropsy. I felt so incompetent. At the time we had 6 beautiful ferrets. My oldest girl owned four and she has since started a career and moved away with them. That leaves two that are my youngest girls but Lucky seemed to be my little boy if you understand what I mean. He just followed me everywhere. I started seeing him loose weight but very quickly it got worse. We ran all kinds of tests and did barium studies and regular x-rays but one night it all fell apart. His necropsy showed a dime size tumor 1/4 inch thick that was way up in his colon in the pelvic cavity. We went back and looked at the x-rays and still couldnt see it there. I was told it was very rare. I mean I felt like I lived in some kind of fiflty house for this little
guy to get Crypto.

Then I worried about our dog and all the other little ferts.

Now Luckies cage mate has a mast cell tumor. It doesnt seem to bother him but it sure scared my daughter and I. I did take him to the vet and she said not to worry, it will dry up and fall off. Wookie (thats his name) is just a year old. Is this young to have mast cell tumors.

Any advise you can give me or history on yours would be helpful.

I am realizing that Crypto is more common then vets think.

I never had Lucky outside, but all the others have been out in a big playpen in the evenings and they just loved it. I also never had them in my basement.

I have to wonder if I bought Lucky with it. But he was so healthy and up till his death loved to eat, play, be held, but couldnt poopie. In fact when he died he weighed more than when he got sick.

I fed him duck soup around the clock every three hours. He loved the time being held and fed. He'd make his little throaty noises and lick up every bit
of soup and wait till I came home for more. HAHAHA he was a little piggy. But in hind site he probably weighed more because he wasnt getting rid of it all. But you'd think he wouldnt have felt hungry then. I don't know but please tell me about yours with crypto and mast cell. Maybe I can make some sense out of all this. Thanks soooooooooooooo much. Jody

Our little one with the mast cell tumors has had them on and off for about 2-3 years now and she is 7yrs old. They don't seem to bother her at all. I think she will outlive all the others. LOL
