The red spot starts out looking like a little red bruise with a small dot of
dried blood. It gets smaller after a few days and then they seem to go away.
The vet said these mast cell tumors are usually not cancerous and they will do
just as we have seen them do, dry up and fall off
**While mast cell tumors in ferrets do tend to be a benign skin tumor
(completely unlike their behavior in other species), there are other skin masses that
can mimic the behavior of a MCT which are not benign. My recommendation for
any skin mass is removal and biopsy rather than just observation, unless there
is a reason to avoid anesthesia in a particular ferret. If you do choose to
observe, remember that the MCT's are often bothersome to the ferret (they can
be very itchy), and if they are recurring frequently, you may want to have
them removed for that reason as well.**
