Chiming in a little late--my ferret Ronan occasionally chews cloth and ends up swallowing the fibers. He has IBD (irritable bowel disorder) and his cloth chewing is a variation on grinding his teeth. Somewhat sensibly, he grinds down on the cloth instead of grinding his teeth against each other, though he grinds the cloth hard enough to make a rather awful noise with it. So, one more thing to keep in mind with a cloth-eater: there might be gastrointestinal upset involved. Ronan gets a daily dose of pepcid and this has made a big difference. He rarely chews cloth now, which is good because his cloth chewing ends up aggravating his intestinal issues because of hairballs.
