Subject: [ferrethealth] Anemic ferret, question
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Someone adopted a ferret from my network and this is what his vet had to
say about his experience with the ferret. If anyone knows what should be
done for the ferret that would be great. Or maybe a pointer in which
direction to go. I suggested that he should simply have a blood sugar
level check again for insulinoma as a first check.

Simon was seen on 10-26-06 for generalized weakness, especially
involving his hind legs. On physical examination he was depressed and
mildly dehydrated. A complete blood count and serum chemistry profile
was done and radiographs were taken.

Simon was hospitalized overnight, given fluids and started on
prednisolone. The following day Simon was 80% improved and sent home on
prednisolone.

His CBC showed a mild neutrophilia and his serum chemistry was
consistent with anorexia. His radiographs showed an area of increased
density of the mediastinum. All else appeared normal.

Simon was seen again 4-13-07 as again he had hindlimb weakness. No
bloodwork or radiographs were performed as he was doing well in the
office. They increased the dose of his prednisolone.

Thanks so much...

xxxxxxx
