You can read about the problems of balancing at home created foods in the FHL archives
and in a recommended and balanced article by Danee DeVore in the latest Ferrets
Magazine.

You can get expert articles on that by an expert who has a doctorate in veterinary
medicine and a doctorate in veterinary nutrition and consultation from:

http://www.petdiets.com/

You can find preparation instructions for a diet that many ferret people use which was
designed by a biologist who is not a veterinarian or veterinary nutritionist but which a
number of list members swear by in:

http://www.trifl.org/index.shtml

including a pressure cooked one which people say is the easiest approach.

You can find the latest comprehensive list of which foods to avoid here:

http://www.fda.gov/oc/opacom/hottopics/petfood.html

and you need to follow the news to find updates on what is happening with the pig farms
and the poultry feed, and so on. AP and Reuters have been very good about carrying that
info as has the AVMA, ASPCA, some state veterinary associations, and obviously also the
FDA site.

http://www.ap.org/

http://www.reuters.com/

Each of those is either a reasonably expert resource, a resource with info from experts
included, or one with very (many years) long trial. Others are included in the FHL Archives:
