Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: Possible blockage update...we're stumped
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

We couldn't afford the gas money right now to make the long drive to
the highly experienced ferret vet, but yesterday we took Lily to the
close-by vet for an x-ray to see if she had a blockage.

What showed up was quite confusing. In Lily's belly and intestines
were several bubble-like shapes. The doctor said those were "gas"
and also it appeared her bowel is inflamed (forgive me for the poor
descriptions) but she had "no obvious blockages".

They said she had a fairly high fever, did a fecal exam that came
back negative for parasites but said Lily had "an overgrowth of
claustridium". She got sub-q fluids "to help bring the fever down".

They sent home AmoxiDrops, metronidazole, and Pro-Pectalin (which
says it's an anti-diarrheal/probiotic for cats, though Lily doesn't
have diarrhea)... All in all, we paid $140 and got no real
diagnosis, answers, or peace of mind. Lily is very lethargic, her
stools are very small, and we're hand feeding her Gerber turkey with
blended up kibble (she seems to still have an appetite).

I really don't know what to do, but figured I'd ask if anyone's been
in a similar situation or has any advice to offer on what to do next.

Any help appreciated,
~Emily & the kids.
