Subject: [ferrethealth] cataracts
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

I have been reading on cataracts in the archives and am wondering some
things. My Bacon is developing cataracts. She will be three in July,
and I have noticed three spots in her left eye about two weeks ago.
My vet feels that they are cataracts, and now in the past several days
two spots of milky white, like the spots in her left eye, have
appeared in her right. My question: does this happen fast in ferrets?
I know that she will adapt as the cataracts progress, but I did not
expect them to progress as fast as they appear to be progressing. By
way of history, little Bacon was a lab ferret where influenza vaccines
were tested, and came to live with us at six months after the lab was
done with her. She was neutered shortly afterwards, and has been
healthy except for two sinus infections. Thanks in advance for any
thoughts.
