Carol,
How long have you been using the wood pellets? I have never used wood
pellets/shavings in my ferret's litter, but years ago before I had
ferrets, read that one should use dust-free cat litter (<an oxy-moron,
really) or newspaper products because wood can make them itchy or
cause skin irritation. What kind of wood is it?
If you do choose to switch litters, just to give it a try, I recommend
Purina's "Yesterday's News" **cat** litter (the small animal kind is
exactly the same but more expensive); it's recycled newspaper, dust-
free and gentle. It's a little pricey, though, about $13 for 30 lbs.
He should probably see a ferret-knowledgeable vet in case, like Sukie
said, he needs medication for something such as bacterial dermatitis.
Best wishes,
~Emily & the furkids
