Subject: [ferrethealth] Poop Problems ~ Long ~ PICS
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Hi Everyone ,

I am posting to get some help/advice for my ferret Dante'.I have been
dealing with this since the day I got him .....so forgive me if this
story is lonnnng , but I will give you whats been going on step by
step with yucky poop pics.I apologize for the grossness of this ! If
pics dont show up ...... the password is ferretpoop

He is a Marshalls ferret, purchased at petco in March. DOB around the
first week of January .On the way home he pooped in his carrier and
it was a golden HUGE pile of Mush . I attributed it to stress from
the move, but I quickly realized that his poop was not normal .( I
also have a 9 month old ferret with normal poop). It was light golden
and "puffy" looking . I could hear him go from across the room, so he
was gassy , which I am sure accounts for the "puffy look to it .He
was on Marshalls food when I got him but switched to my mix of
Zupreem,8 in 1 Ultimate and The Ferret Store Natural a few days
later . His poop remained exactly the same .Here is a pic....please
note that all of the lighter puffy poop is his , and the darker
normal poop is my other ferret Francescas.

He went to the vet twice ..... 2 negative fecals .....and has been on
2 rounds of Flagyl and Pepto Bismal and the poop has stayed the
same .After giving the second round of flagyl and pepto( after I
finished it ) it did look a bit worse(mushier)and here is that
pic .....

So I took him off of all of the dry food and started him on chicken
baby food only .Immediately the puffy poop was GONE ....BUT.... I had
slimy GREEN POOP ! here is that pic

Its been 2 full days of JUST chicken baby food .... and late last
night the greeness was going away ( he is not pooping much at all , I
guess bc the chicken baby food is pure protein ??) but then it had
some blood in it!and its still slimy. uggh here is that pic .Note the
green poop was earlier , and then the golden brown slimy with blood
was later

Sooooooo ..... whats my next step ? Should I take him for a stool
culture ? Should I keep him on the chicken baby food for now ? How
much of that should he be eating ? Should I now switch to turkey baby
food and see what happens there ??

Also ......since day one ..... he eats and drinks well and is very
healthy looking and playful ! I think he is a bit upset that I have
taken away his dry food ! he LOVES to eat !! He has gained
weight ....and is now 2 lbs ( he has gained a pound since getting him
in March). He and Francesca has been together and her poop is fine.I
have been in contact with my vet plus we have gone to the vet a few
times and she is not sure where to go from here either !

After all of the gross pics ....now a very cute one of my baby boy
Dante' !!! he is so precious ! I hope you guys can help him !!!!
Dante' when I first got him ....
