Wendy,

I have a deaf ferret too! I got a tremendous amount of help and ideas
from yahoo groups Deaf_ferrets as well as at
http://www.wolfysluv.com/deaf.html <http://www.wolfysluv.com/deaf.html>

I too use vibrations to call Josie to me. This works great in the truck
- I bang three times in succession on the floor of the truck and she
almost always wakes up and comes to me. At the apartment I cannot use
this as the floor is concrete and no matter how hard I thump I can't get
the floor to vibrate!

SO I will use smells or just open the front door and close it - seems
the change in air pressure or maybe the outdoor smells will rouse her
sometimes.

Mostly I just monitor where she is and where she snoozes. SHe does wake
and come find me several times a day. Seems like she is checking that I
am still close by and then goes back to bed!

When she wants to play she'll scratch at my feet.

Hope this helps!

Cheers,JosiesMom
