Subject: [ferrethealth] I just saw a cool foreign body imaging trick
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

It was on Emergency Vets on Animal Planet. The animal was a dog but the important thing is
that he had swallowed the sort of material ferrets often swallow. There were not the telltale
bubbles in the intestine that often spotlight such objects and they figured it might be in the
stomach but the material the toy was made from looked like the fluid around it normally in
an x-ray. So, what the radiologist did was to add air into the stomach. With air around it the
toy ball showed up clearly on a new set of x-rays. It seems like a great technique which
could possibly be useful for some ferrets.
