In answer to the first question, there have been a number of reports
of false positive results when blood is used as the testing sample
with both of the Avecon Tests. For this reason, most people advise
only using saliva as a testing sample with the Avecon tests.

And, while I can't speak for all the ferrets whose blood tested
positive with an Avecon test - I know of several who always tested
negitive by CIEP and if saliva was used in an Avecon test.
Additionally, some of those ferrets have since passed on, and necropsy
results found no trace of ADV.

On the second part, about the paralysis - it depends. I have heard of
some ADV+ ferrets who suffered hind end weakness or paralysis and
responded positively to treatment with prednisone or another steroidal
anti inflammatory. Some recovered completely, and others improved
with treatment. However, in other cases (and usually near the end of
the disease) there was no improvement with steroid treatment.
