I am curious about the Listeriosis. Your description sounds
a lot like it, but other things do, too, so... Does your vet have
_Biology and Diseases of the Ferret, second edition_? I will
have to see if it shows in my other vet texts here, too. Okay,
very brief mention on page 430 of _Ferrets, Rabbits, and Rodents,
2nd edition_ and page 118 of the first edition of _Ferret Husbandry,
Medicine and Surgery_. The most detailed write-up by far is
the one in _Biology and Diseases..._
I checked Pub Med for you on that without a hit.
There is a parasite (if memory serves) bay-something or other
that raccoons get which multiplies in the brain, but I have not
heard of ferrets getting it. Ah, here is the name: Baylisascaris
procyonis. I know that it's been written of as a still unusual (but
not usually looked for) emerging disease in humans in the U.S.
in whom it can cause eosinophilic meningoencephalitis. I find
no hint of publications documenting that in ferrets, though.
Here are some possible past vet posts for you on various
other ferrets with neural diseases:

There are probably some I missed.
