I wonder too why vets continue to prescribe such a nasty medication
when a gentler alternative could be given. If the vets that prescribed
flagyl had to take it and suffered the side effects of nausea, mouth
ulcers, and a nasty strong metalic taste they might understand why
ferrets hate it so much. When everything tastes constantly like metal
who would want to eat anything? Biaxin is a gentler alternative but
does still leave a metalic taste though at a lesser level. Unless the
bacteria is only sensitive to flagyl (I personally had one that was and
the nurse apologized that I had to take flagyl- though I was actually
quite pleased because I was able to know first hand what it does) you
may want to ask your vet for a less stressful antibiotic, that is
unless you have a ferret that doesn't mind it.
