This should not be a problem of semantics since the words and phrases have distinct meanings and definitions. Syringe feeding is a tool technique - a method [i.e syringe feeding VS. spoon, bottle or finger feeding, for example.]

Force-feeding vs assisted-feeding is an act of will - a procedure. Were these the words with which you have a problem understanding the semantics?

Gee I hope you are not suggesting ANYONE here would stubbornly refuse to properly care for a ferret in their care. And since you quoted me I want it clear that I go the distance to care for any animal in my or a friend's possession and there are any number of vets who can vouch for my efforts and willingness to continue efforts of all out care, and a few could even reveal how I really feel when one is lost, even one over which I had control, but a few hours --- but I will NOT push life onto one whose time is run. And YES that is a hard thing to know - when to let go.

I would think anyone who has both fought to save them and also let them go would resent an implied accusation of lack of care - lack of compassion - surely those words were carelessly chosen and written without thought.

It is one thing to give care and another to stubbornly force existance and prolonged agony on an animal - any animal including humans.

No one is suggesting that any animal be allowed to starve to death because of a stubborn refusal to syringe feed! Maybe this is the semantic difficulty you refer to.

Finally - The caveat about syringe feeding, whether assisted- or force-feeding is a valid warning about a valid concern. Those who are not experienced, those who are not experts, those who are not perfect caregivers cannot hear the warning too many times.

If there is anyone here who is so experienced and so knowledgeable that they simply cannot stand another warning posted, perhaps they could skip over the warning - you know - not read it as they obviously do not need it's message and yet allow those who need a gentle reminder or newcomers to ferret care to hear the warning whether for the first time or one thousandth time. Would that be OK?

I would hate to think that I let an animal slowly drown in soup through aspiration because I stubbornly refused to warn someone about possible pitfalls of syringe feeding under any circumstance.
