Wow. I'm glad I syringe fed Boris, when he came to me weighing less
than a pound. He weighed in 6 months later at 3 and a half pounds. He
stayed around for three more wonderful years, that I will remember
forever.

[Moderator's note:

Okay, the points the vets want to get across is that syringe feeding is usually (There are exceptions to everything.) best as a last resort when safer ways to get food into ferrets works. They want people to learn the safe ways to do it from the vets themselves or from techs they assign to teach clients because done wrong aspiration pneumonia, a life threatening infection, can result.

People agree that a ferret who has a chance of living needs all necessary care, and that sometimes ferret give up before they should.

People also agree that a ferret who is near death tends to know it before the human caregivers do -- which only makes sense because we are talking about their own bodies -- and that it is important in the end to put aside one's own wishes and needs and instead consider those of the ferret foremost.

What people have not been agreeing on has been how these things get said, so since we all know these main points now perhaps it would be best if this conversation went to new material is there is something to add that will help all.]
