Clover;

When we talked, didn't you say that vet suspected a small mass on Buddy's liver? With this article about the Bilirubin and liver you might want to find a ferret vet and have his liver checked again for progress, if any, with tumors or liver problems.

Part of the liver, and I think it's 1/3 to almost 1/2 can be safely removed (please someone correct my figures if the almost 1/2 is too high). The liver can regenerate itself. The problem with Buddy is his advanced age. He has been through A LOT and survived, but I would not want to make this call.

Clover is careful about his diet (all of their diets); so unless someone is sneaking him rice cakes under the couch it doesn't seem like this is diet driven. Clover??-- could he have munched on a no-no?

One thing that is not mentioned and it may be a red herring, but Buddy did take a pretty good stomping from a "friend's" dog last summer. That's quite a bit of time for this problem to develop I know, but, perhaps some internal damage (tissue death) that has taken this long to manifest itself?

Vicki
