Despite the medication's needs for animals which can have it by injection,
can ferrets even take it by injection?

Not all vet texts have medication tables or write-ups of particulars for
dosing ferrets, but these vet texts list it only as an oral medication:
_Essentials of Ferrets, a Guide for Practitioners_, page 27
_Ferret Husbandry, Medicine & Surgery_, pages 276, 277
which also notes that neurotoxicity has at times been encountered in dogs
_Ferrets, Rabbits and Rodents, Clinical Medicine and Surgery_, page 276
