Subject: [ferrethealth] benadryl dosage
Our gang is soon to start getting their annual shots again (some
aren't getting them) but I have been searching through the FHL
archives and can't seem to find what I'm looking for. I know to
pretreat with benadryl to avoid a bad reaction to the vaccines...but I
never found information saying how much to give. The last vet we had
did the pretreating for us but we've changed vets and they don't
pretreat. I guess they would if I asked, but I want to do it myself, I
just need to know how much to give.
Our Lupi won't be receiving his shots anymore because of a severe
reaction last year. He had to stay at the hospital in a heated cage,
on oxygen and closely monitored. We almost lost him. It was very
scary. We've also had a few others who had bad reactions, but not
nearly as bad as Lupi.
We're also going to be using Purevax for the first time. I know it's
less likely to have a reaction, but I still want to pretreat...I don't
want another incident like with Lupi.
Thanks so much for your help. I know I don't post anything here, but I
do find this group very helpful. We're going through a lot of
different things right now, and I've noticed that a lot of people ask
the same questions I have...so I get them answered at the same time ^.^
