Microwaving foods is a little different than stove top heating.
Microwave cooking is done by exciting the water molecules present and
making them VERY hot, and that heat gets distributed quickly because
its in tiny spots throughout the food. So, microwaving CAN destroy
heat sensitive meds since those water molecules that maybe right next
to them are getting way hotter than body temp.
HOWEVER, chances are, if its only being heated briefly, only a small
portion of the meds would be destroyed. I make large batches of ferret
soup with melatonin & heat it in the microwave without worrying.
Excess melatonin isn't harmful, so I have a little more in there than
they need.
But if I wanted to put Pred in for a picky eater, I'd add the Pred
after heating and right before making sure my little darling ate all
of it.
IMO, it depends on the med. If there's any worry, add it after
heating.
