Subject: [ferrethealth] difficulty urinating
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

I think my 2 1/2 y.o. PVF, Mojave, may be having trouble
urinating. He keeps walking in and out of the litter pan and when he
goes he strains by stretching out as far as he can and pushing his
abdomen in and out. Yet there is no poop in the litter pan afterwards.
He does not show any signs of adrenal disease and is not making
any noise when he strains. Does anyone know what may be causing this
other than an enlarged prostate due to adrenal disease or stones?
Also, is there any way of telling if it is an enlarged prostate
without an ultrasound? The vet's ultrasonographer only comes around
on Monday mornings and since today is Monday it would have to wait
until next week.
Is it safe to treat him with Propecia even though I'm not sure if
it is an enlarged prostate? He is not on any meds at this time so it
won't interact with anything.
Finally, I don't believe he is eating as well as he normally
does. Any correlation? He is drinking water and I have given him some
baby food to try and supplement what he is eating.
I am going to make an appointment with the vet today, but since
she isn't that ferret knowledgeable I thought I should get some help
from the ferret community.
Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Sheryl
