Vicki M. Sounds like my Bucky who had the same problem when he was about two years. X-rays proved he had an enlarged Prostrate; Emergency hospitalization was necessary. I suggest you find a small animal and bird hospital soon.
At least order up some X-rays to check for internal problems.

Sounds like he's having trouble with pooping AND urinating. What you said sounds like an intestinal blockage with another problem like a UTI. Vet care is definitely needed and I'm not sure a non-ferret vet is the best choice if there is an intestinal blockage (but we all have to start somewhere)... Best of luck to you guys.
