Resinous woods ie.: pine, cedar, etc are irritatring to lungs and
skin, the pellets I've goten are horse stall bedding made primarily of
aspen.
Ear mites when left unattended can cause a secondary skin rash, so
that would be my first guess for treatment. Get enough drops (
ivermectin) from your Vet to treat everybody.
Though I've not encountered it, catnip reactions are a worry, some
ferrets are very sensetive to it.
At any rate a Vet visit is in order.
