You may find it easier to use the enzymatic toothpaste with a bit of cheesecloth over your
pinkie finger.

The relationship between circulatory disease and gingivitis is not clearly understood yet.
That there is a relationship between gum disease and arterial disease is known. Exactly what
the nature of that relationship is is not known. People with periodontal disease are almost
twice as likely to have heart disease as others and also have higher cholesterol levels. The
rate is also higher with untreated cavities or with missing teeth.

It could be that oral bacteria may influence the rate that plaque is laid down in arteries o rthe
nature of that plague, but this isn't a problem that ferrets appear to share with us. It may be
that bacteria in the blood stream may affect heart health even in those without preexisting
heart disease, but if so is cardiomyopathy among the types of problems that could be
caused? It may be that there is an shared underlying cause for both which makes them more
often seen together, or that poor circulation may worsen oral health, or even that some meds
may affect one, the other, or both.

So, while there is a rate relationship in humans between poor oral health and cardiovascular
disease as well as some related factors like high cholesterol levels, and while it pays to take
care of oral health for a wide range of reasons including simple quality of life, it is too early
to beat yourself up over their oral health in relation to cardiomyopathy.
