There are real questions whether Saw Palmetto works
beyond a placebo effect.
It does appear to usually be very safe in the species
studied, though, except for some very rare (extremely
rare) but documented associations with onset of liver
inflammation and once also pancreatic inflammation
in other species.
You may want to look it up in PubMed:
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi
Also potentially useful for you are:
http://www.umm.edu/altmed/index.html
and
http://www.brainybrawn.com/IMCAccess/HerbSuppIntC_lookup.html
For example, notice that dosing of some cardiac
meds may need adjusting down when Co-Enzyme
Q10 is given. Also, notice that it might reduce the
risk of thromboses/thrown clots and that Vitamin E
also appears to help in this regard. There is some
conflict among studies. BTW, notice that it is low
also in people with periodontal disease.
Do notice that these supplements have small effects
compared to the established medications for use in
cardiomyopathy in ferrets but used right some may help.
