Subject: [ferrethealth] Ear Mites
To: <ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com>

Yesterday we adopted three ferrets from our local shelter here in Connecticut. One of them had previously been treated for ear mites, which were supposedly cleared up, but she acts like she still has them. Her ears *look* clean, but she continues to scratch a lot.
I'm wondering if it would make sense to treat her again for possible mites, and if she doesn't have them, could ear mite treatment cause any damage? Also, would it make sense to treat the other two ferrets for mites as well, even though they are not doing any scratching or showing any symptoms of mites? They all live together in the same cage now.
Looking online, I see two brands of treatment that are readily available: Gimborn Pet R-7 Ear Care Kit *OR* 8 in 1 Pet Ear Mite Remedy. Is one of these preferable over the other, or is there another, better remedy that I should look to buy?
