History of Calvin, about 5-6 years old.

Dec 2005 - Low blood glucose. Diagnosed with insulinoma. Exploratory
surgery showed normal pancreas and adrenal glands. All other
organs unremarkable. Put on Pediapred (5mg/5ml) .5cc x 2/day.
Maintained BG at 60-80 range. Fur never grew back where it was shaved
for surgery.

June 2006 - Calvin had a prolapsed rectum. It repeated several
times over a period of two months. It always returned to normal
in about 30 minutes to a hour. Then the problem went away completely
and I have not seen it since.

Nov 2006 - Fur thinning/bare skin on nape of neck and bare skin
patch on right rear leg. Tail and butt normal hair. Scratches
often. Previous surgery location still bare with a few stray hairs.
Suspect adrenal. University of Tennessee panel reported normal
levels. Full blood test showed all levels within normal range. BG
was 120. Up from the level a year ago. Normal energy levels.
Plays with the other ferrets

20 Jan 2007 - Stopped eating (kibble and Wysong Archetypal I dried
meat) and drinking water from bottle in cage. Started hand feeding
Duck Soup (about 30mg) 4x/day. Normal energy levels.

6 Feb 2007 - Still hand feeding but with normal energy levels. Given
a barium x-ray series. A foreign object was discovered in his
stomach. Also, his stomach was in an abnormal position. Exploratory
surgery found a hair ball in his stomach, several fat deposits in
his abdomen and his stomach lining was bloody. A sample of his
stomach was sent to pathology. The fat is what put his stomach in
an abnormal position. However, the fat was left (I don't remember
the reason for this decision) and I assume the abnormal position
of stomach was corrected in some manner. I continued to feed Duck
Soup after the surgery. I started looking for black in his stools
but I have not seen any.

14 Feb 2007 - Calvin stopped eating all food. He would sniff at his
bowl of soup and lick once or twice. It appeared that just a couple
of licks would cause pain and he would rub his mouth and neck on
the carpet. He was prescribed .25cc (10mg/10ml) of Pepsid 30 minutes
before eating.

15 Feb 2007 - He started eating kibble and dried meat on his own.
He also starting drinking from the water bottle. I still gave him
duck soup (about 15ml 2x/day) to encourage him to take his Pediapred.

25 Feb 2007 - Dried meat consumption reduced to about half. Reduced
energy levels. He runs down the hall and fights some with other
ferrets. He shows pain after eating about 13ml of duck soup and
then leaves the rest. I am still giving him Pepsid 2x/day before
meals.

26 Feb 2007 - No change in eating. The pathology report on the stomach
reported that there was no evidence of helicobacter bacterium.

It appears that something is irritating Calvin stomach. We can not
determine what. The Pepsid seemed to help at first but now it is
less effective.

Any ideas?
